Take control of your energy bills

1 min read

ARE you struggling to understand your energy bills, or looking for advice on bringing costs down?

Anglicare Victoria and Bass Coast Climate Change Action Network are holding a free session at the Wonthaggi Library on Wednesday, May 8 at 11am to discuss ways to help low-income households save money on their electricity bills through efficiency measures.

Jessica Harrison is co-hosting the meeting on behalf of the Bass Coast Climate Action Network (BCCAN) in collaboration with Anglicare Victoria and encourages the community to come along to the session and bring your electricity bills with you.

“By bringing your bills with you, we can help you better understand what plan you’re on,” said Jessica.

“We know the community are thirsty for knowledge on how to save energy and save money, and that is what this session is about.”

Jessica will attend the session and is willing to share the research from her recent Cosy Homes project.

“We conducted energy assessments and retrofits on 30 houses in Bass Coast, and by doing so proved that you can actually save energy and money by making a lot of small changes in your home,” Jessica explained.

“In this session we’ll discuss these changes so you can take control of your energy bills.

“Draft proofing, installing energy-efficient globes and improving household appliances are effective ways to keep the cold air out and warm air in, whilst reducing energy emissions.”

During the session, the speakers can also discuss grants and low-interest loans for appliance upgrades. Jenny Temple, Library Programs Manager said Myli is pleased to host the event.

“As the temperature declines our energy bills go up and this is a real stress for many people,” she said.

“We know that some of our patrons come to the library because it’s warm and they can’t afford to heat their home all day. This workshop will offer practical, affordable solutions to help with this issue.”

Werner Theinert will also be in attendance on behalf of BCCAN to provide his expert knowledge on energy saving initiatives. Everyone is welcome and bookings are not required.
