MEMBERS of the Korumburra-Bena Football Club gathered at the Giants’ netball courts on Thursday night to recognise and honour the Little family by dedicating the netball stand in their name.
The club’s netball president Merrissa Cosson said the Littles have given their heart and soul to the club in both football and netball and to this day are still very heavily involved.
“The Little family, led by Johnnie and our grand lady of netball herself Norrie, have been instrumental in supporting our club over the past years.
“Norrie passed away earlier this year and her love of netball follows on in her children and grandchildren.
“Norrie was there from the beginning and gave so much to netball and the wider community, her involvement extends over decades earning her a Life Membership in 1982, and a Best Club Person for Bena in 2000.
“Norrie and her family of young netballers played at the caravan park for many years where Norrie was always seen coaching, umpiring and running a tight ship.
“From here the family joined the Bena Football Netball Club and she last coached Bena A Grade in 1993.
“Norrie proceeded to carry on her love of coaching from the sideline and is solemnly missed by all who knew her.
“She was our Number 1 supporter! Today it’s great to see Johnnie still venturing out on a Saturday cheering on his family from the sideline here at the netball court or over at the footy oval!
“The Little family, together with all their grandchildren, have over many years volunteered in so many ways, from being a committee member, to coaching, umpiring and playing.
“Overall the families combined have coached 28 football teams (this includes Johnnie’s 21 years straight coaching the Bena Fourths) and 62 netball teams, been a member on the committee 20 times, have 38 club best and fairest awards, 37 individual awards, 19 league best and fairest awards, eight best on court in a netball grand final and three Netball Rising Star Awards.
“Their amazing contribution to our club has seen the Little family honoured with five life memberships, soon to be six!
“On behalf of the Korumburra Bena Football Netball Club we feel it’s only very fitting that in honour of Norrie and the entire Little family, that we dedicate our netball facility to them, naming it the ‘Little Family Stand’.
“We’re so very grateful to have such a wonderful family within our club, and we extend our appreciation to Johnnie, Kerri, Julie, Shelley, Glenn, Stephen and all your families, I know Norrie would be very proud of you all!”
Kerri Besley spoke on behalf of the family.
“I know as a family we have spent many years at the ground and the netball court, but we do it because we love it, and we encourage our kids to do the same.
“Thanks so much for the honour. It’s not something we would have ever searched for; it’s just something that’s happened over the years.”
