LOCAL farmers were among the first in the country to try out the latest premium farm machinery from John Deere at CERVUS Leongatha’s Ride and Drive Days last week.
On show and ready for a test drive at Leongatha South last Thursday and Friday were two brand new tractor models from John Deere: 5125R (with 543R front loader) and the 6250R. The new Goweil Kombi Baler Wrapper was also on display.
As well as attracting farmers from near and far, the product launch saw many curious passers-by stopping in off the highway, and friendly farm machinery experts from CERVUS and John Deere were on hand to talk them through the new models’ many innovative features.
CERVUS Leongatha branch manager Joe Messina says the 5125R is the ideal utility tractor for beef and dairy farms.
With 90 to 125 horsepower, the 5125R fills a gap in the market for a compact, manoeuvrable tractor with the horsepower range of a large row crop tractor such as those in the 6 series.
The 6250R is the newest and biggest member of the 6 series family. It brings a range of new features and benefits including high horsepower (up to 250) and carrying capacity.
Both the 5125R and 6250R are brand new to Australia, only having been released in October.
Kilcunda hay contractor John Matheson attended the Ride and Drive Day on Thursday, looking for an upgrade.
John said he wanted a lightweight, high horsepower tractor that would get around the field quickly without using a lot of fuel, and after taking a test drive, with CERVUS training manager Russ Mosetter in the cab alongside him, John said the 6250R ticks all the boxes.
“It’s a little pocket dynamo,” said John, particularly impressed with the 6250R’s easy to operate transmission.
Russ said the 6250R is the ideal model for contractors like John, but that it also offers a lot of flexibility, making it suitable for a range of different farms and applications.
Russ has been working with the 6250R for the past four weeks, showing it to farmers from Hamilton to Terang and Sunshine before bringing it to South Gippsland, and says he’s been surprised how well it performs.
