THIRTEEN junior Korumburra Wildcats teams made the trek up the Hume for the 42nd annual Shepparton Tournament on the weekend.
The Wildcats made their return to Shepparton after a five year absence to give the club exposure to the teams in the north of the state before the important Country Titles early next year.
It was also a change from the regular Gippsland competition, taking on the some of the bigger clubs like Bendigo, Shepparton and Wodonga.
All teams were highly competitive and enjoyed a fantastic standard of basketball.
With no semi-finals in most divisions, teams needed to finish on top of their pool to advance to a grand final berth, meaning wins in pool games were crucial.
The under 18 boys and under 12 A boys, narrowly missed out on grand final berths only losing one game for the weekend.
It was left up to Gemma Dixon’s under
12 girls’ team to bring home a title for the Wildcats.
Playing Yarrawonga-Mulwala Lakers in the final, whom they had played earlier in the day and accounted for by 15 points, it went down to stretch in an exciting game.
The baby Wildcats held their nerve to take the B Grade title by 2pts.
