THE Cape development at Cape Paterson will house around 220 homes and include more than 50 per cent open space.
There is also a permit for 32 apartments in a building for short-stay accommodation, a conference centre with cafe, community building and community food garden.
The development will be serviced by a school bus and is quietly remote from the central business area of Wonthaggi.
But families are not the only group targeting Australia’s first truly sustainable residential project.
KPMG demographer Bernard Salt coined the term “e-changers” as professionals and others that prefer to work from an idyllic regional location and only go into the city now and then for meetings or other reasons.
The one thing project director Brendan Condon says Salt missed in his description is that an e-changer requires a sustainable home with low operating costs.
Buyers so far have included a number of professionals that “understand good design”, he says.
Others have been local families, tradesmen and active retirees.
For those retirees on a fixed income, the ultra-low running costs and active social design of the project has been a major attraction.
“The homes [built to date] are generating an energy surplus. People can decouple from rising energy costs.”
He says the homes do not have “high tech specs” and are easy to operate.
The builders and project team spend a lot of time with the buyers explaining how to operate the home efficiently.
The Cape is an industry leading sustainable residential project that works closely with leading local builders and designers including Adapt Design Group, Beaumont Concepts, TS Constructions, The Sociable Weaver and Archiblox.
The Cape consists of over 220 home sites, and Stage 2 lots are now for sale although nearly two thirds are now sold.
Very affordable townhouse lots of 313sqm are available, through to the premium ‘heirloom’ 730sqm lots.
The estate overlooks the spectacular Bunurong Coast and Bass Strait and residents can walk to beautiful unspoilt swimming and surfing beaches and enjoy an enviable lifestyle.
