Fears of another smelly summer

INVERLOCH, Phillip Island and San Remo could turn into rubbish “dumps” in the coming weeks, following no significant change to bin pick-ups for the peak tourism period.
Business owners are bracing for a repeat of last summer, where bins overflowed, and some popular tourism spots smelt like month-old used nappies.
The stench followed the introduction of an organics bin; and fortnightly landfill bin pick-ups, as opposed to weekly.
Furious residents believe key tourism hotspots will be overrun with rubbish again.
And while the council has made some changes to bin pick-ups for this summer, business owners don’t believe it’s enough to fix the problem.
