FRENCH-multinational waste management company Veolia has selected a quarry at Leongatha South as the preferred site to dump domestic and general waste from Melbourne’s south eastern suburbs. It wants to bring 200,000 tonnes of waste per year to the site only 2.5km from town for the next 15 years. Veolia officially recommended the site to the State Government on Friday as part of the Statewide Waste and Resource Recovery Infrastructure Plan. But the local community is set to fight the plan and it will have the support of the South Gippsland Shire Council.
