An accident at Koonwarra last week should serve as a timely warning to remain alert to dangers on the road during the hectic pre-Christmas and holiday season.

POLICE are still investigating the cause of a three-car crash on the corner of Hogans Road and the South Gippsland Highway near the Leongatha saleyards. Police said a Mitsubishi ute, which was waiting to turn right into Hogans Road, was rear-ended by another car, that was also rear-ended. The driver of the first vehicle, a 60 year old man, was rear-ended by another car that was waiting to turn right, by a probationary driver in a Nissan Xtrail. The 40 year-old woman driver of the second vehicle – a Ford Sedan, had a three year-old passenger in a car seat. The three drivers and toddler were taken to hospital for observation. Police on the scene said there was no indication alcohol had been involved and investigations were continuing. Attending the scene was Leongatha Police, Bass Coast Highway Patrol, two ambulances, Leongatha CFA to assist with debris wash-away and an SES representative.
