I find it extraordinary that Bass Coast Shire Council CEO Allan Bawden can tell one of our elected councillors that he would not be permitted to attend a council operational meeting (Councillors ‘kept in the dark’ on major project – Sentinel-Times, April 9). The thought that our democratically elected councillors are not allowed to keep an eye on all aspects of council on our behalf appals me. There have been many times in the past when council officers have made decisions with impunity that have negatively impacted residents in the shire. I don’t profess to be an expert on council procedure, but there seems to be too many decisions made without the full knowledge and participation of elected councillors. Maybe it’s time that was changed. Steve Carter, Inverloch.
