ROCKENSPIELE, a three-piece all girl outfit from the Foster area, won last week’s Battle of the Bands held at Leongatha’s Dakers Centre. The girls, who’ve had airplay on Triple J, continued their rise and will have a chance to further their exposure when they compete in the regional final later in the year.
The Battle of the Bands was a FReeZA gig, supported by the State Government and presented by UnitingCare Gippsland. A healthy crowd of young people attended the gig on Wednesday evening and were treated to an impressive range of performances from competing Steff, Aura, Rockenspiele and Dispersion after Triumph Over Logic opened the show. But it was Rockenspiele who impressed the judges most with their “great vocal array, happy vibe and great songs”. The judges also said the girls have “lots of airplay and recording potential”. Aura also earned praise from the judges with their “great song arrangements”, “great musicianship” and their ability to “connect brilliantly with each other”. The regional final will be held on October 10 in East Gippsland. The winner there will qualify to compete at the Push Festival in March.
