THE Alberton Football Netball League has released the final nominations for their football and netball rising star awards with Kilcunda-Bass’ Jacob Dakin and Dalyston’s Britt Thomas receiving nominations for August. Sponsored by the Korumburra Sports and Spinal Clinic, the Rising Star Award will be presented in the coming weeks at league presentation events.
Dakin is playing his seventh season of football with Kilcunda-Bass and is now a prominent member of the senior side. Dakin has developed into an athletic forward with good hands and is a prodigious kick. He represented Alberton Under 18s in the Interleague this year and was awarded best on ground against the Mid Gippsland league. His main aim is to win a senior premiership with the Panthers. Netballer Britt Thomas was last year’s Under 15 League Best and Fairest winner.
Thomas has had another outstanding season and relished every opportunity she’s been given to play in A Grade, enjoying the chance to play alongside older sister Jarney in the higher level. Thomas is a fit player who has a strong work ethic and likes to push both herself and her teammates at training. Very smart on the court she is an accurate shot and a great team player. She enjoys representing her league and region and this year was a member of the Alberton 17 and Under Regional State League winning team as well as the Alberton open team which competed in the state titles.
