THE hilariously funny, locally-inspired film, ‘Leongatha’ will be coming home to Wonthaggi, for a week of screenings, from Thursday, September 12. Written and directed by Shane Dunlop, whose family has strong Wonthaggi and Dalyston connections, it will be screen at the Wonthaggi Cinema and it’s like that the director and several of the stars of the film will be ‘back in town’ on Saturday night, September 14 to see the film in its natural surroundings.
Ironically, the event could have the ultimate of distractions if Dalyston Football Netball Club has (a.) made it into the Alberton League grand final that day and (b.) is celebrating the premiership by the time the film is screened. The ‘Dunlop’ family name has been heavily associated with Dalyston over the years so don’t expect to see too many of them at the film if all doesn’t go to plan at the footy club. “We really enjoyed shooting the film locally and the feedback we’ve had so far has been really good,” said Shane this week. There’s little doubt that locals will get a lot out of the film, especially spotting the various local backdrops used for the action but also because it draws from a real life local story involving a family bus trip to a local wedding. Watch for more details next week.
