KORUMBURRA’S Integrated Children’s Centre’s designs were unveiled on Wednesday morning and you can take a walk though by clicking this link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kdQiiR3ORIc&feature=youtu.be
The centre will accommodate 120 children in a purpose-built childcare centre, kindergarten, maternal health, out of school hours care and training facility for childhood educators. Daniel Haskell of Haskell Architects presented the concept designs to council and a very interested gallery during a briefing session. Mr Haskell described the challenges of the site and how the concept plans incorporated the kindergarten and children’s centre while also keeping a strong connection with the nearby school. The site, which is a consolidation of three blocks of land will require significant ‘cut and fill’ of 1.5 metres. The centre features flexible rooms with visibility through the rooms, acoustic treatment of ceilings, thermal chimney, north facing play area, easily accessible toilets, south-facing windows to let in natural light, landscaped play areas and approach, large turning centre for cars, meeting rooms, car parking and more. The project is estimated to cost $5.2 million. “This is a priority project for council and we are seeking State, Federal Government and corporate funding to realise this vital facility for the Korumburra district,” said the Mayor Kieran Kennedy. “Council has committed $2.045m and provided the land for the facility, so our commitment is evident.” The parents of Korumburra Kindergarten and Birralee Childcare Centre have also contributed $100,000 to the project. The designs are now on display and public comment to council is welcome. The concept designs will be displayed at the Korumburra Library, Birralee Child Care Centre, Korumburra Kindergarten and council. Written comments can be submitted to council by close of business on Friday, September 6 to Sally Baker, Manager, Children and Family Services, South Gippsland Shire Council, Private Bag 4, Leongatha 3953. Further information can be obtained by contacting Ms Baker on 5662 9812.
