THE Wonthaggi Recreation Reserve looks a picture, and a hive of activity, today as officials from the Alberton League, the Bass Coast Shire Council and others apply the finishing touches to the ground, the netball courts and surrounds.
It’s clear the Bass Coast Shire Council has made a special effort with this year’s event, not only to help make tomorrow a successful event but also in the hopes of securing the event (and the economic boost) for the town and the shire in the future.
The oval looks a picture, marquees were seen going up on the netball courts, extra toliets were arriving and some savvy supporters already had their cars (unoccupied) in the queue at the gate waiting for the 7am opening. Someone even put a car on the fence, inside the ground, last Tuesday!!
Footy action starts with I-K and Korumburra-Bena in the Under 15s at 9am while the netball starts with the 13 and Unders at 9.25am. While Korumburra-Bena is dominant with all four footy teams in and four of six netball teams, there’s seven of the leagues clubs represented on a day that is expected to be boosted by casual attendances from the town of Wonthaggi.
