Web_xmotocross_4113WONTHAGGI’s Jed Beaton is the new Australian Junior Motocross 125cc age group title holder after a brilliant performance at the 2013 Australian Junior Motocross Championships held at Horsham last week. Part of the Yamaha Junior Racing team, Beaton won the 13-15 year 125cc class and was a cut above the rest to claim his first national championship.

The 15 year-old backed up his 125cc result with a second place in the 250cc class in the same age group.  “This is the best feeling,” Beaton said after the win.  “Wilson [another competitor] and I were going at it all week and it was awesome racing him as I know how fast he is and how good he rides.  “He made me ride the best race I have ridden in that last race.” “I also want to thank the Victorian Yamaha Junior Racing team, our sponsors, Cameron Taylor and my family for their support as this has been a long time coming.”

Beaton started riding when he was four years old and moved to Wonthaggi two years ago from Tasmania.  The championships got underway with scrutineering last Saturday with practice sessions on Sunday and Monday, qualifying on Tuesday and Wednesday before finals on Thursday and Friday.  “It’s a massive effort for him,” Jed’s mum Jane said.  “The whole family was there to see him win – we are very proud of him and he is very humble about it all.” Beaton could be boarding a plane to China on Wednesday to race, provided he can get a passport in time.
