showjumpingStephanie Carfrae of Korumburra puts her horse through its paces at the Holden Show Jumping Classic on Saturday afternoon.

SHOW jumpers squeezed in two full days of events at the Korumburra Agricultural Society Holden Show Jumping Classic. Riders started arriving on Friday night from all over the state to compete in the event at the Korumburra showgrounds. Conditions were perfect for the classic that attracted many riders, including members of local clubs and David Lever, a high-performing showjumper. The conditions and the fact that 90 per cent of the events were sponsored attracted large fields. One of the most exciting fields was the 22 riders in the 135 category, an unprecedented number. The hotly contested Herb and Ada Shandley Memorial Ladies Jump on Sunday attracted 53 registrations. A large number of juniors also competed with some events held under lights for the first time ever at Korumburra. Over the weekend there were over 500 rounds of show jumping with 150 registered competitors. Ingrid Williamson rode a quick and clear jump-off round aboard ‘I Reckon’ to win the main class, the Holden Colorado and Leongatha Holden 130-135cm event. Jumbunna rider Wes Joyce rode ‘LH King Arthur’ to fourth place in the Holden Colorado and Leongatha Holden 130-135cm event. Winner of the junior championship was Jess Hurley riding ‘Blackall Park Charity’. Sam Robertson riding ‘Tyranosaurous Rex’ also had a successful weekend, winning both the Morwell Panel Works, open 120cm and class the Taranto Windows and Glass open 120-125cm events. Organiser Sandy Carfrae was rapt with the event. “Our message to the show jumpers last year was that if they wanted it to continue, we needed more help and more sponsors,” she said. “Everybody’s just lifted and really helped out. “It’s great that we can still offer this sort of event, with increasing numbers, to our local riders and attract visitors.”
