As a passionate advocate of public transport, why am I not seeing any news stories about the return of rail to Leongatha, South Gippsland?
All that I see is continuous news stories about the roads and not the failure of our state government to reinstate this required passenger and freight rail service that was axed in stages during the 1980s and 1990s.
Peter Ryan should be held accountable for not resolving this issue that is still present and has been ongoing since his former Liberal government led by Jeff Kennett crucified this railway line in 1994.
Since then, the failures of the road have just been continuously reported and it is has been very clear that reopening the adjacent railway line to the South Gippsland Highway is the solution.
It is inefficient for our state government to continuously spend our taxpayer funds on roads compared to railway lines as only big business is benefited and everyone else is disadvantaged.
Yes, you may have reported that rail is an important election issue in this region for the upcoming state election, but more support is required for this ongoing saga.
It’s only a matter of time before this railway line is reopened.
