ITS official- Leongatha’s Eleanor Patterson is bound for Glasgow after becoming the national high jump champion on Sunday.
Competing at the Australian Athletics Championships in Melbourne on the weekend, the 17 year-old secured her spot in the Australian Commonwealth Games team, clearing a height of 1.92m.
Patterson has now gained automatic selection to the Commonwealth Games having fulfilled all other criteria as per the selection policy.
Continuing her recent dominance, Patterson was the only athlete in the competition to successfully clear the height at Lakeside Stadium, Albert Park.
The jump also bought the talented youngster her first senior title.
In a short few months the VCE student will board the plane with her fellow Australian Commonwealth Games team members.
And the local girl is more than a chance.
The gold medal winning jump at the Delhi Commonwealth Games was a height of 1.91m, in December Patterson jumped 1.96m, the highest jump by a 17 year-old anywhere in the world.
