A TWO night Easter Cup weekend for Victorian Mini Sprints at Rosedale and Bairnsdale Speedways got under way on Good Friday with victory to Luke Ferguson from Bass ahead of Victorian Champion Owen Milton, also from Bass, and Matt Parsons.
The first of three heats on night one at Rosedale began with Jason Lynn and Stuart Ferguson from the front and Owen Milton and Parsons behind.
Parsons was quick to lead lap one with Stuart Ferguson, Luke Ferguson and then Milton in tow.
Milton picked off Jnr Ferguson (Luke) on lap two and Snr Ferguson on lap five whilst he couldn’t get to Parsons who went on to win from Milton, Snr Ferguson, Jnr Ferguson, Kevin Bomford, Danny Milton, Owen Bulman and Jack Day whilst Jamie Laird had issues that were later to be determined as faulty spark plugs.
Danny Milton led the field to the green flag in heat two but it was Jnr Ferguson to assume the race lead on lap one over Parsons and Bulman.
A spin by Snr Ferguson earned a rear of field restart and allowed Owen Milton to challenge Jnr Ferguson at the front.
Over eight laps Jnr Ferguson held strong with the Victorian champ coming in second then Bomford, Snr Ferguson, Bulman, Danny Milton and Day. Parsons failed to finish with a faulty ignition switch.
The final heat race began well for Bomford leading from the green to lap six before Owen Milton caught and passed into the lead.
Jnr Ferguson who to this point was second then found himself battling for second to fourth with dad and Parsons getting the better of him as he slipped to fourth at the finish line. Bulman and Danny Milton completed the field.
The night feature then got underway and for Jnr Ferguson, what a final it turned out to be. He went on to win from Owen Milton, Parsons, Snr Ferguson and Bulman.
Bomford didn’t finish with issues with electrical relays, Day had a damaged brake calliper as it tore off the diff and Jason Lynn had dramas with the temperature cut off sensor.
Night Two –
Bairnsdale Speedway hosted night two of the Mini Sprints Easter Cup closing out the two night challenge with the previous night’s winner Luke Ferguson doubling up by winning night two in front of Kevin Bomford and Matt Parsons.
The night began the way Good Friday finished with Jnr Ferguson taking a complete distance win ahead of current state champion Owen Milton.
Bomford finished in third place in front of Stuart Ferguson (Snr Ferguson) followed by Parsons, Danny Milton and Jack Day.
Jason Lynn’s problems continued to plague him and Owen Bulman began to have his own mechanical concerns.
Disaster struck for Owen Milton when the chief steward penalised him for jumping the start and penalised him two spots at the first available caution.
Snr Ferguson was then handed the lead with Jnr Ferguson and Milton chasing all the way to the finish, then came Bomford, Parsons, Bulman, Day and Danny Milton.
Parsons continued his consistent weekend leading every lap in the last heat of night two from Jnr Ferguson, Bomford, Danny Milton, Bulman and Day. Owen Milton and Snr Ferguson both failed to start when their cars shut down before heat 3.
In a very quick 15 lap final Jnr Ferguson led from start to finish with Bomford second all the way.
Parsons got the better of Snr Ferguson and Owen Milton whilst the ever improving Bulman headed Day and Danny Milton to the finish.
The Easter Cup overall results after two nights’ racing saw Luke Ferguson win from Matt Parsons and Stuart Ferguson.
Parsons was very happy with his results in the two night series.
“Luke was sensational across the weekend. Well done to him and Stuart on their results.
“I have to thank my brother Dean who turned the spanners this weekend for my turn behind the wheel. The racing was great with great people. Rosedale and Bairnsdale Speedways were sensational this weekend also and that made it all the more fun.”
