WONTHAGGI Secondary College, as expected, won all but two of the matches in the South Gippsland Division of State School Sports Victoria soccer games on Wednesday.
The weather was perfect for the busy rounds of soccer at the Leongatha Secondary College oval, and given the location, gathered plenty of supporters and interest from students, especially the Leongatha Primary School.
Wonthaggi had only one girls team – Year 7 girls, which won their match, and had wins across the board in the Aussie rules games held on the same day at the velodrome.
Wonthaggi Secondary College, with its teams made up of a combined Wonthaggi United and Phillip Island Breakers teams was always the stronger on the day.
Wonthaggi won the Year 7 girls competition 1-0 over Leongatha Secondary; the intermediate boys on points; and the senior boys 1-0 over Leongatha.
Mirboo North Secondary College caused an upset, winning the Year 7-8 boys’ game against Wonthaggi 2-1.
Leongatha Secondary College won the intermediate girls after the game against Mirboo North Secondary went down to a penalty shoot-out.
Regional finals for soccer will be held on July 28 to 30 at Latrobe City Soccer Club.
