YOUNG local equestrian riders Adeline Collins and Molly Barry were thrilled with the results they achieved at the recent Melbourne International Horse Trials.
Adeline’s horse is a 19 year-old thoroughbred called ‘RPC The Third Wise Man’ and is affectionately known as Harry at home.
Molly’s horse Just Joshen (Josh) is a six year-old quarter horse cross, bred by Mick Irving from Eddie Thompson’s stallion from Foster ‘Top Gun’.
In the company of some of the best young riders in Australia, some coming from as far as Western Australia, the girls were ecstatic just to finish the Cross Country phase.
The gruelling cross country course was fairly testing and covered some 4.5km of ground within an eight-minute period of time.
Part of the gallop across the country included the famous ‘Werribee Mansion Rose Gardens’ where quite a few riders had issues.
Molly and Adeline however, finished the course without any complications which meant both of them moved up the placings.
The final phase the following day was the showjumping which was quite technical and saw most fences some 1.15 metres in height.
The girls were happy with their results at the end of the showjumping; Adeline finished 20th overall and Molly 5th.
Both girls are looking towards next year’s events and plan to start horses back in work within the next few weeks.
