FISH CREEK netballer Hannah Flanders has won a premiership with the Monash Storm’s Under 19s Victorian Netball League team.
The team won the club’s first premiership in that age group at the State Netball and Hockey Centre last week.
Hannah played a pivotal role predominantly as a goal attack in her side’s two goal victory against City West Falcons.
Hannah has played for both Gippsland Storm and local club Fish Creek and over the last few years and has developed her game to a level that she’s regularly in the starting line-up for the elite level.
The Monash team went from second bottom of the ladder in 2013 to premiers last week.
Hannah said her home club has always supported her.
“From the time I started playing junior netball at Fish Creek, I’ve always had coaches whose main objective was to teach me the finer points of the game,” she said.
This support continued at the VNL grand final last week.
“It was overwhelming and exciting to see the amount of support I had from my friends and family who had travelled all the way from Fish Creek,” Hannah said.
“Also the amount of people from Gippsland Storm who were there to support the team.
“I’m really proud to be a part of, and represent the Fish Creek Football Netball Club, who have been right behind me the whole way through.”
Hannah initially missed out on selection for the VNL side last year.
“Even though I took the news pretty hard, I maintained a positive attitude and outlook,” she said.
“That eventually paid off when I was selected in the VNL side this year.”
Playing under ex-Diamonds defender Jo Curran, Hannah has learnt to be more composed on the court and to have a high level work ethic both at training and on game day.
“Jo taught me ways that I could take my game to the next level to match the opposition defenders,” Hannah said.
