THE Alberton Open netball team has been crowned state champions for the second consecutive year.
The Cath Chester-coached team comprises of the Alberton Football Netball League’s best netballers.
After winning the Eastern Regional State League Competition at Churchill in March, the girls qualified for Netball Victoria’s Champions Challenge.
On Sunday the team travelled to Knox where they played off against the winners of the other regional state league competitions from across the state.
These teams were all major Football/Netball Leagues including Bendigo, Hampden and Ballarat.
The girls played three short games (2 x 12 minute halves) and were undefeated.
They then headed to Waverley Stadium for the grand final after the Australian National League Game between the two Victorian teams.
They came up against Ballarat FNL in a full 4 x 15min game.
All players got to take the court and contribute to this game and they came out 10-goal victors (46 to 36).
This is back to back wins for coach Cath Chester and the girls who remain undefeated this year.
