Leongatha high jumper Eleanor Patterson was awarded the Gippstar Open Sportsperson Award for 2013/2014 after her recent successes.
LEONGATHA’S Eleanor Patterson has added another accolade to her growing CV, taking out the Gippstar Open Sportsperson Award for 2013/2014.
The Commonwealth Games Gold Medallist was awarded the honour after her high jump successes, placing first at the World Youth Championships in Ukraine in July 2013 and first at the Australian Open Age Championships.
These wins cumulated in the 18 year old winning gold at the Commonwealth Games recently.
Eleanor was unable to make the awards night last Wednesday night, as she was still on her way back from Glasgow, and was represented by her brother Ben on the night.
Another Leongatha athlete to be honoured on the night was 15 year old cyclist Thomas McFarlane.
Thomas was the Gippstar Monthly Award winner for the month of February 2014 after winning the gold medal in the team pursuit at the Junior Track Cycling Championships.
The night was held at the Federation Training Waratah restaurant at Morwell with 30 Gippstar Awards presented to some of Gippsland finest athletes from eighteen different sports and three dedicated volunteers for the 2013 -2014 year.
Each of the monthly Gippstar Open and Junior winners received their awards after an entertaining interview by the effervescent MC Mat Cummings.
