Let’s not beat around the bush.
It’s time to close the Wonthaggi and Inverloch transfer stations.
Phillip Island’s transfer station has closed, and we are now left with the bizarre and unfair situation of half the Bass Coast Shire having transfer services available and half without.
Provision of transfer stations in Inverloch and Wonthaggi is an expensive luxury at a time when more waste than ever before can be sold, recycled or composted.
Here at Grantville, rubbish continues to blow uncontrolled into surrounding bushland, and the methane generated by the tip is the council’s single biggest source of greenhouse gas emissions.
The Grantville tip is not a bottomless pit and it’s about time residents from other areas started taking more responsibility for their waste.
