Track manager at the Outtrim motocross track, Brendan Hemming, is delighted with the support the Korumburra Motorcycle Club has received from the shire and other donors and sponsors towards the cost of machinery to keep the track in the required shape to host a state championship round in a few weekend’s time.
IT WAS back to the new-look Korumburra Motorcycle Club’s Outtrim motocross track at the weekend for the second practice session of the season, this time a two-day meeting in perfect conditions.
The two-day practice was the ideal hit-out for the track and for the riders in preparation for hosting a round of the Junior Victorian Motocross Titles on Saturday and Sunday, March 21 and 22.
Track manager, Brendan Hemming, couldn’t be happier with the condition of the track but he’ll be leading a big effort over the next two weeks, especially at a major working bee at the track this Sunday, March 15 to have everything in tip-top shape for the big event.
“We’ve had tremendous support from the South Gippsland Shire and our sponsors, enabling us to buy the necessary equipment to improve and maintain the track with the result that we get to host important events like the Vic Titles in two weeks’ time.
“We’ve had three in-a-row now and I’d expect to see upwards of 200 entries here on March 21 and 22.”
The KMCC is looking for a big turnout at the track this Sunday to help out as they want the track and surrounds to look their very best for the showcase event.
They need help with a general tidy up; whipper snipping; painting tyres; fixing flag points; putting track markers back in; extending wash bay points; and marking out grounds for camping… to name a few things that need doing. Contact Greg Ashmore 0418 996 589 (a/h) or Graham Bird 0417 588 768 if you can help.
The club also needs 40 volunteers, past and present members, 20 each day to do corner duty on the weekend of March 21 and 22, if you can help.
All volunteers will get their food paid for and earn a free practice day at the club.
But last weekend’s practice session was all about having fun and there was a big crowd, of all ages, doing just that in ideal conditions, especially on Saturday with some overnight rain and morning drizzle keeping the dust down and the track in top condition.
The club would also like locals to know that at five rounds of the Gippsland titles this year, they’ll be having races for age 12 to under 16 girls. Check out the Gippy motocross website for details.
