Members of the Inverloch team are now eligible to contest the Australian Lifesaving Championships to be held North Kirra Beach on the Gold Coast on April 11 to 19.

INVERLOCH, Waratah and Woolamai Beach surf lifesaving members proved to be strong competitors at the recent Victorian Lifesaving Championships at Ocean Grove on the weekend of March 28 and 29.
Members from the local clubs returned home with a host of medals, and Inverloch was the highest performing team, taking 50 points to be 11th overall (equal with Lorne SLSC); the overall winner was Anglesea SLSC with 446 points.
Competitors from Inverloch, Waratah and Woolamai embraced the chance to battle with the best from across the state to put their lifesaving skills to the test.
Stand out results from local athletes included:
• Defending Victorian and Australian champion Nick Lehman again winning the Open Men’s Beach 2km Run, with teammates Samuel Cresswell taking bronze and Luke Foster finishing fourth
• Gold for Waratah in Under 19 Men’s 2km Run, Under 19 Men’s Champion Lifesaver and Open First Aid Competition

LSV’s Coordinator of Sport Events, Tom Mitchell said this year’s state carnival saw fierce competition across all events.
“All events were highly contested and Inverloch, Waratah and Woolamai have done well to finish with some outstanding results,” he said.
“Competition was both fun and fierce and Sunday saw the sun come out with exceptional surf conditions, making it a great day for both athletes and spectators.
“This weekend’s champions will now set their sights on gold at the Australian Lifesaving Championships to be held in a couple of weeks in Queensland at North Kirra Beach, Gold Coast, from April 11 to 19.”
