THE Chila family is carrying Mirboo North Secondary College’s hopes in the interschool showjumping (ISJ) competition.
Jaime Chila, on ‘Spook’ won Reserve Champion at the May 8 event in the ‘Encourage’ category to see Mirboo North Secondary College shoot up to ninth in the ISJ competition.
In the cumulative results (after Round 2 of four), Mirboo North Secondary College is in seventh overall, and Jaime Chila second in Level 2 ‘encourage’.
The ‘encourage’ class had the largest number of competitors (50 riders) and the overall champion Saffron Wardrop-Brown won first place from Jaime Chila on a countback.
Charlie Chila on ‘Ceige’ also performed well; Charlie was fourth in the Level 5 ‘intermediate’.
Charlie and Ceige were only 10 points behind the champion in a very tight competition.
Boyd West of Newhaven College on ‘Bell of the Ball’ also came fourth, in Level 3 ‘improvers’; and on his second horse ‘Azza’ finished 11th in the same category.
Fellow Newhaven College student Maddie Watt on ‘Squeak’ was seventh in Level 3 ‘improvers’.
South Gippsland Secondary College students Elli Clavarino in Year 9, and Calypso Tuttle in Year 11 attended with Money Muncher ‘Dez’ and Lord Pre Eminence ‘Emmy’, respectively.
Elli and Dez competed in Level 4 Progressive and Calypso and Emmy competed in Level 2 Encourage.
Elli and Dez fared very well with Dez coping well with being in the noisy covered arena for the morning session, complete with music over the PA.
More than 200 riders, representing 67 schools braved the chilly conditions to compete in the 29th ISJ event at Ayr Hill.
Overall, Toorak College won the school’s competition by 10 points from Hillcrest Christian College and extended its lead in the ISJ Series Trophy.
The next competition will be on August 28 for Round 3 (Winter Show).
