PAST and present players, committee member and supporters spent the weekend celebrating 50 years of the Leongatha and District Netball Association during a weekend full of events.
The sun came out on Saturday as the official celebrations got underway with current players taking to the court.
Throughout the day, former and present netballers, officials and umpires wandered throughout the impressive display of memorabilia followed by an afternoon tea.
Later that evening the Leongatha Grand Stand Function Rooms were filled to capacity with more than 100 guests enjoying a three course dinner by local chef Brett Kuhne at the sold-out event.
A highlight of the event was the attendance of local netball royalty and head coach of the Australian Diamonds Lisa Alexander, who later tweeted to her thousands of followers “Wonderful time last night for Leongatha Netball’s 50th celebrations. Amazing women and amazing volunteers.”
The night also saw the launch of the much anticipated LDNA 50th anniversary history book following the dinner.
It is the first time the history of the association has been captured in a book, with guests keen to get their hands on their own copy.
A special surprise was the presentation of life membership to long-time committee member Maria Evison in recognition of her dedication to the association.
Maria joined an elite club of just seven other women to be bestowed the honour since 1981.
Following the formal celebrations, it was back to the courts on Sunday for an ‘old timers and past players’ match followed by a barbecue lunch.
