Your article last week (May 5) reminding us of the South Gippsland Shire Council’s plan to spend $25 million on a new municipal precinct is timely.
Whilst a worthwhile project, to commit ratepayers to such an expense when there are so many vacant commercial buildings seems just plain wrong.
Does our council (meeting behind closed doors) know of demand to buy or rent the existing council offices which could make a good argument for building new offices?
Is the demand for commercial and office space on the increase?
Our councils should be looking for ways to save money or convince us otherwise.
