PHILLIP Island surfer Nikki Van Dijk has recorded her best result of this year’s Women’s World Surf League Championship Tour with a quarter-final appearance at the Fiji Women’s Pro last week.
In solid eight-to-10-foot waves, Van Dijk progressed to the second round after finishing second in the first round heat to South Africa’s Bianca Buitendag, before overcoming Brazil’s Silvana Lima in the second round.
She came out on top in the third round over Hawaiian Malia Manuel and Australian Tyler Wright to skip the fourth round and progress to the quarter finals.
Luck didn’t go Van Dijk’s way in the quarter final heat, with eventual runner-up Buitendag producing the goods to knock her out of the competition.
Fellow Australian Sally Fitzgibbons won the final of the event, with Van Dijk retaining a 13th ranking in the championship tour.
Van Dijk is currently in Mexico, in preparation for the US Open of Surfing at Huntington Beach, California from July 27 to August 2.
