This TS Constructions home won awards at the recent Master Builders Association Regional Building Awards.

TS Constructions is the first builder to complete a home at The Cape development in Cape Paterson.
The stunning, 8.2-star rated home, at the corner of Seaward Drive and Wilson Road, sets a new benchmark in style, sustainability and liveability.
The home was recognised and won in two categories at the recent Master Builders Association Regional Building Awards; as the Best Sustainable Energy Home and Best Display Home.
These awards are hotly contested by the best of Gippsland’s builders and are judged by industry experts with extensive experience.
Tony O’Connell, a director of TS Constructions, was justifiably proud.
“This is the second time we have been awarded ‘Best Sustainable Energy Home’ in the past three years.
“Sustainability is becoming more of an expectation by our clients. It’s no longer good enough to treat it as an afterthought.”
The benefits of building sustainably are many.
The price difference between a standard home (six star) and this sustainably built design (8.2 star) is becoming less with the corresponding payback on investment period also reducing.
The home as displayed can save its owners up to $5000 per annum and reduce greenhouse emissions by up to 16-tonnes.
However, the biggest benefit is living in a home that remains at a stable and enjoyable temperature and can take advantage of its location for cross flow ventilation as well as views.
Designed to maximise passive and active environmental initiatives, the four-bedroom home has the flexibility to meet a variety of different life stages.
Externally, the home is an impressive mix of materials that provide thermal efficiency, shade and cross-flow ventilation options without compromising the visual impact of the design.
The selection of building materials was determined by a desire to have locally sourced, highly efficient products that were durable enough to last in an exposed and rugged environment.
The selection of a range of complementary Weathertex products combined with feature blockwork and timber shade structures achieves high sustainability with a low carbon footprint.
Stepping inside, the first thing that stands out is the feature rammed earth blockwork wall.
Designed to be a thermal heat sink that maintains a stable temperature year round, the wall complements the other organic materials used, including timber floors and stairs and the polished concrete slab.
Living in this home will provide the owners with a place that will be significantly cheaper to run than a similar sized house that does not have the same level of environmental consideration.
The home’s outlook is onto a well-designed and locally sympathetic garden that will become a haven for local fauna, birds and insects.
Day to day benefits include the availability of natural light throughout the home, natural airflow and a stable temperature due to the thermal mass incorporated in the design.
A 5kW solar photovoltaic power system provides power to run the low energy appliances and LCD lights and all standby appliances associated with the TV and entertainment units are connected to a Greenswitch to permit them to be turned off with one switch.
They have even included an electric vehicle charge point in the garage.
TS Constructions provides advice, design and construction services for environmentally sustainable homes throughout Gippsland and Phillip Island.
The team has the training, experience and building knowledge to deliver a well built and cost effective home that addresses practical considerations.
The display home doubles as a sales office for the developers of The Cape.
The Cape is Australia’s first truly sustainable residential project.
It brings together modern architecture, clean energy and community spirit in a unique development.
Residents are encouraged to build their dream home in a sustainable and responsible way on one of Victoria’s most spectacular coastlines, just a stroll away from pristine waters.
