DUMBALK dairy farmer/student/researcher/CFA volunteer and all round young dairy industry leader Will Ryan is in the running to win the Australian Farmer of the Year and Agricultural Student of the Year award.
The Kondinin/ABC Rural Farmer of the Year Awards celebrate the highly professional, innovative and sustainable approach of farmers and farming families, showcasing their passion and raising the profile of the important role they play in Australian agriculture.
Will has already been identified as an emerging leader of the Australian dairy industry.
In 2014 he was selected by the Gardiner Foundation to accompany the former Victorian Agriculture Minister Peter Walsh on a trade mission to China to understand the dairy value and where the opportunities lie for Australian products into the Chinese market.
After completing his Bachelor degree of Agriculture and Technologies in 2014, Will identified a need to continue pursuing education – he is completing his Masters of Agribusiness.
Will continues to build his experience in the industry as the Industry Development Officer at the Australian Fodder Industry Association, but his studies have given him a high level of understanding across agriculture and dairy supply chains.
Will is nominated with two others for the Agricultural Student of the Year award.
Winners from the nine categories automatically qualify for the Australian Farmer of the Year.
Winners will be announced on Wednesday, September 9 in Sydney.
