LEONGATHA’S Matt Stevic completed a ‘three-peat,’ of his own on Saturday, when he umpired his third AFL Grand Final.
Stevic, got the call up for the biggest game of the year last Tuesday, following another impressive season in the umpire’s outfit.
Joining fellow Leongatha local Jarryd Roughed on the hallowed turf of the MCG it was business as usual for the experienced umpire.
And, if there were any nerves, they didn’t show with Stevic being given the honour of undertaking the all-important first bounce of the game- and he nailed it.
It was a proud week for Leongatha and South Gippsland with many locals taking to social media to express their congratulations to both men on their achievements.
And there was no-one more proud that Stevic’s mum Pam, who expressed her delight at her son being given another grand final berth on the Sentinel-Times Facebook page.
“So very proud of you Matt,” she wrote.
“Well done you have worked so hard all year.”
Great effort love mum xxx.” A sentiment echoed across the region.
Matt along with his mum are now believed to be enjoying a well-earned overseas break.
