THE 2016 Alberton Football Netball League draw has been released, highlighted by a full opening round of matches across the Easter weekend on March 26-27.
Once reserved for one to two blockbuster clashes, matches at Easter have been embraced by clubs looking to cash in on big crowds in recent years.
Last season, all clubs except Toora and DWWWW played at Easter, with the nearby clubs completing the puzzle with a match at Alberton West this season.
The match is part of a bumper first round, with Phillip Island hosting Stony Creek, Dalyston facing local rival Kilcunda-Bass at home, Tarwin hosting MDU and Inverloch-Kongwak playing Korumburra-Bena in the traditional match at Inverloch.
Foster and Fish Creek complete the opening round with a Saturday night local derby under lights at Foster.
2015 grand finalists Dalyston and Fish Creek will renew hostilities in Round 3 at Dalyston, while the growing rivalry between Dalyston and Phillip Island will continue in the Anzac Day round on April 23 at Cowes.
The bye structure has changed to have all clubs playing each round, with a bye for the interleague match on May 21 and a league-wide bye on July 9.
This year’s finals series will kick off a week earlier than previous seasons on Saturday, August 13, with the league’s grand final to be played on Saturday, September 3.
