I have been away on holiday and was horrified to find that the Bass Coast Shire Council’s Human Resources Committee has awarded our CEO a $20,000 salary increase to his $300,000 per annum salary.
This is a 6.7 per cent increase and equates to $1410 per working day.
Who are the members of the Human Resources Committee who are so generous with ratepayers’ money?
What has the CEO achieved to warrant this increase three times more than CPI?
• He commissioned a waste management strategy costing $60,000 to tell us what we already know – we require a kerbside green waste collection, fortnightly recyclable collection, a hard rubbish disposal and a seven day transfer station.
• A $30,000 study for traffic management in Rhyll which agreed with residents request for a one way street.
• Increased residential rates by 8.9 per cent in the last budget.
• Produced a long term financial plan showing rate increases more than CPI for the next 10 years after the announcement of a cap on rates to CPI.
The HR committee should justify to ratepayers why they thought this increase to the CEO’s salary can be justified.
