THE Poowong Loch Junior Football Club set to field a youth girls’ team next season.
The ‘Pink Bulls’ will cater for girls aged between 13 and 18 years of age and will be the 10th all girls team to be established in Gippsland.
The side will play each Sunday, competing against other local teams including Dalyston and Warragul.
AFL Football Development Manager for the Gippsland Region Chelsea Caple says it is a great opportunity for local girls to get involved in the sport.
“I think this really shows how proactive the Poowong Loch Bulls are in offering this for the local community,” she said.
“It will be pretty exciting to see the ‘Pink Bulls’ in action.”
Ms Caple said the team will also open up pathways for talented players to pursue a career in higher competitions.
“There is the opportunity to be selected for the Gippsland Power girls’ team,” she said.
“For some players, they could be playing AFL in two years.”
An information evening for prospective players and families will be held this Thursday, December 10 at the Loch Memorial Reserve from 7pm until 8pm.
