SWIMMERS from the South Gippsland Bass Swimming Club recently travelled to Melbourne to compete in the Annual Country 7-10 meet as part of the Gippsland Representative team.
To make this team is a feat in itself with Gippsland winning the past 25 years at this event.
It is a great privilege to make this team and compete in a meet that is held in very high regard by the Coaches and Representatives of Gippsland Swimming.
Many of the swimmers finished in the top 10 for the day, a huge achievement against such a strong field and we were even lucky enough to have three swimmers claiming top three finishes.
Madison Douglas came 3rd in the Girls 7yrs breaststroke, Oscar Hughes won the Boys 8yrs Butterfly and was 3rd in the Freestyle and Belinda Baird claimed 3rd in the Girls 9yrs Butterfly and Freestyle.
Other swimmers to compete were; Mia Dugard, Jake Marotta, Jesse Dugard, Nash Carter, Jaelina Kiley, Nicolette Wight, Ania Todd, Luke Car, Matilda Grace, Hannah Simmons, Ky Kleeven, Hayden Barnes and Luke Muir.
Gippsland finished the day in first place with 1761 points, well clear of 2nd placed Central District (610) and 3rd Ovens and Murray (590).
Mayson Vanderkolk, Lily Robinson and Nathan Foote recently travelled to Adelaide to compete in the Australian School Swimming Championships as representatives of Team Victoria.
All three swimmers competed in eight events each over the seven day competition which were a mix of Relays and Individual swims.
Up against the best swimmers in Australia, all three swimmers performed at a very high level to help Team Victoria and bring great respect to them themselves and the team with what they achieved during the seven day competition.
Nathan’s three individual swims consisted of all Backstroke events, finishing 4th in the 100m Backstroke, 6th in the 50m Backstroke and 7th in the 200m Backstroke.
Nathan also swam in a number of relays, narrowly missing a medal in the 4x50m Medley Relay, coming home in 4th place in which Nathan swam the backstroke.
Lily managed two individual top 10 finishes for the meet, claiming 5th in the 100m Breaststroke and 6th in the 50m Breaststroke.
Lily swam the breaststroke leg of the girls 14 years 4x100m Medley Relay in which the team came away with the Bronze medal in a very close race with 2nd.
Mayson finished 9th in the 100m Breaststroke, narrowly missing the top 10 her other two breaststroke races, finishing 11th and 12th in the 50m Breaststroke and the 100m Breaststroke respectively.
