DRIVERS will continue to notice activity on the roads as crews make the most of dry weather.
VicRoads regional director Eastern Region Scott Lawrence said many jobs had been completed to improve the roads, with more to come over Christmas and into the New Year.
Mr Lawrence said a section of the South Gippsland Highway at Koonwarra was being rebuilt, with works to follow on the highway at Ruby.
“Road rehabilitation works are larger scale projects that involve digging up sections of the road, rebuilding it, and then laying a new surface,” he said.
He said $340,000 would also be spent rebuilding a section of the Bass Highway.
Mr Lawrence said $1.7 million had been allocated to reseal 26km of road in South Gippsland, and $2 million to reseal 37km of roads in Bass Coast.
“The resealing works will improve the road surface, while making it waterproof and more resistant to future damage.
“In addition, mowing and vegetation trimming is being carried out to reduce the fire risk, increase safety for motorists and improve the appearance of roadsides.”
The Eastern Region Alliance, a partnership between VicRoads and contractor Fulton Hogan, will deliver the works program.
Mr Lawrence said safety was the number one priority on all worksites.
“We want people to slow down and drive with care to protect the safety of road workers. These workers are real people with real families,” Mr Lawrence said.
