INVERLOCH tennis rising star Jack Clements has been selected to represent Victoria at the upcoming Australian Championships.
The 15 year-old Wonthaggi Secondary College Year 10 student was chosen in the School Sport Victoria 18 and Under team, which will compete in the School Sport Australia Australian Tennis Championships to be held at Albury from April 30 to May 8.
With a strong serve and solid volley in his repertoire, Jack impressed in a series of competitions to gain selection in the final team of 16, including male and female students from across Victoria.
Many past School Sport Victoria team members have gone on to compete at national and international competition including grand slam events, ATP and
WTA tournaments and Australian tournaments.
What makes Jack’s achievement even more special is the fact he is the only 15 year-old in the team and will be eligible to try out for the team for the next two years.
He began playing at the Inverloch Tennis Club as a seven-year-old and quickly fell in love with the game.
“I like competing and I’ve made a lot of friends through tennis,” he said.
“It’s great travelling around with tennis as well.”
Jack’s parents Shane and Sharon drive him to Traralgon one to two times per week for training sessions with Gippsland Academy coach Graham Charlton.
He lists Aussie players John Millman and Sam Groth as his favourite players, and is looking forward to playing with the best young talents at the Australian Championships.
