THE Poowong Pool Refurbishment Project has been granted an extra $200,000 for its $455,000 refurbishment that will secure its future.
The project will include the refurbishment of both male and female toilets and change rooms as well as the first aid room.
It will also involve creating multiple access points for each of the change rooms and the development of new ramp access to the facility from the main footpath.
The funding for the project was provided by Sport and Recreation Victoria through the Community Sports Infrastructure Fund – Small Aquatic Projects program.
South Gippsland Shire councillor Lorraine Brunt has been a big advocate for the Poowong Pool Refurbishment Program.
“The upgrading of the facilities will secure the pool’s future and allow it to remain a loved and used centre to serve the community for years to come.
“The Poowong community stepped forward when the pool needed help and rallied to save their pool. It’s a great outcome for all involved in the community,” Cr Brunt said.
The Poowong Pool Refurbishment Project will cost $455,000 altogether and $255,000 will be contributed by the council.
Only local councils are able to submit applications directly to Sport and Recreation Victoria.
Community organisations can seek support from the fund through the Minor Facilities, Cricket Facilities and Female Friendly Facilities categories by submitting an Expression of Interest Form for Community Organisations directly to their local council.
Any clubs wishing to discuss a project should contact their local council who will provide further advice.
Successful projects are strategically supported through the development of facility master plans.
