THE ‘Look Over the Farm Gate’ get-together night for dairy farmers and members of the local community at the Kernot Hall on Thursday night, featuring the fantastic music of Greg Champion, was a great success.
Well done to organisers, led by event coordinator Faye Tuchtan.
Despite the wintry weather outside, the fire was blazing inside and the hall was soon filled with people, conversation, food and music.
It was all you wanted to see from such an occasion.
“It was a great night. We left the chairs packed away on purpose initially so people could get around and talk and they certainly did that,” said an exhausted but delighted Mrs Tuchtan.
“It’s nice to get the community together and also to show the dairy farmers that we really value them and we care about them,” she said.
Funded through the State Government response initiatives, via the Bass Coast Branch of the VFF, with the support of BC Landcare, the BCSC and Bass Group CWA; the night included a visit by Pockets the Clown with his balloon-making skills for the kids; pizzas, chips and drinks from the Kernot Store, music by locals Pete and Nikki Baird, and guest appearance by Greg Champion.
As well as his popular songs, Greg also spoke with empathy for the difficult year ahead for local dairy farmers.
Among those in attendance were Brian Paynter MP for Bass, Crs Clair Le Serve, Brad Drew and Phil Wright and representatives of Bass Coast Health, DHS and Rural Financial Counselling Service.
The MC for the night was Mike Cleeland who contributed a few poems.
Upcoming events include:
* Bush Dance at Meeniyan Hall, Saturday, July 2 [6.30pm-10pm]
* BBQ for Dairy Farmers at Korumburra Showgrounds, Sunday, July 3 [10.30am-2pm]
