TRAVELLING forward on the road to the Rio Olympics, local high jump champion Eleanor Patterson has recently touched down in the United Kingdom in preparation for the Diamond League Championships.
The 20 year-old athlete from Leongatha is preparing to make her first appearance at the Diamond League competition in London on Friday, July 22.
After competing in London, Patterson will move on to compete in several athletic meets in Florida in the United States, all in preparation for the upcoming Rio Olympics.
Patterson is a fine export of the Leongatha community, who has previously represented Australia at the 2014 Glasgow Commonwealth Games, where she won gold against England’s Isobel Pooley.
The then 18 year-old Patterson became the third youngest Australian Commonwealth Games champion.
Both Patterson and her long-time coach David Green, who has been training Patterson for the past 11 years in Leongatha, have ventured over to the UK, and have switched off and unplugged from social media and the internet in an attempt to focus on the upcoming task at hand.
The Diamond League meet will take place on July 22 to 23.
