THE Australian Farmer of the Year Awards have returned for 2016 in a new format designed to recognise agricultural achievement.
Nominations for 2016’s Australian Farmer of the Year Awards will be accepted from Wednesday, July 6 till Friday, August 26.
Organised, by the Kondinin Group and ABC Rural, the awards give farmers the chance to nominate themselves or their colleagues into the flagship Australian Farmer of the Year and Young Farmer of the Year award categories.
Other new categories have also been introduced this year to recognise rural champions on and off the farm.
Among the new categories included this year is “The Farming Legend of the Year,” which seeks to recognise farmers who have made a lifetime contribution to the industry, showing resilience, nous, knowledge and outstanding acumen.
Another new category is for “Rural Community Leader of the Year,” which highlights unsung heroes who endeavour to keep farming communities vibrant.
The last of the new categories is for “Farm Consultant of the Year,” which pays tribute to the hard-working consultants who help farmers achieve outstanding results.
This year’s winners will be announced in Canberra on Thursday, November 10.
