FIT Football is coming to Inverloch.
It is a new group-based soccer fitness program for people who don’t have the time or commitment to play competition and Inverloch will be the first in Gippsland.
It all starts on Friday, July 29.
This exciting new initiative is a partnership between Football Federation Victoria, GippSport and local club the Inverloch Stars.
The sessions will run from 9.15am every Friday at the Inverloch Recreation Reserve.
It is a great opportunity for those that play to do a bit extra and for anyone else that just wants to try something new.
The Stars Women’s coach Kathy Lagoudis, who will run the sessions, is urging anyone to come along and give it a go.
“It is more fun than a workout and, whatever your fitness level, you’ll see improvement in no time.
“The sessions will be short and sharp, 30 to 45 minutes with a focus on socialising with like-minded people as well as getting physically active.”
GippSport, through the VicHealth Regional Sport Program, is focusing on developing new opportunities to increase the number of people participating in sport with a particular focus on those currently inactive or who have low levels of physical activity.
Program coordinator Gene Parini believes Fit Football makes sense.
“Not everyone can commit to the traditional ways we have played sport in the past so programs like this which offer flexibility, low cost and focus on fun are certainly winners.”
Football Federation Victoria run Fit Football sessions across metropolitan Melbourne and believe taking the new program to regional areas is very exciting.
“The feedback so far has been really positive from those that have participated,” FFV participation manager Mike Fox said.
“Being able to offer this in Inverloch through this partnership with Inverloch Stars SC and GippSport could be a platform that can be replicated in other country areas.”
The cost has been kept to $5 per session and you can pay as you go.
The proceeds of the program will go to the ‘Light Up the Stars’ campaign which will provide sports floodlighting for Thompson Reserve in Inverloch.
It all kicks off on Friday, July 29 at Inverloch Recreation Reserve (Sandy Mount Avenue) with a wet weather back up plan at the Inverloch Hub from 9.15am, ideal timing after the school drop off.
