THE day of Antarctic weather didn’t start well in South Gippsland and Bass Coast today when a local man was injured after his car rolled when it hit black ice in the early morning.

The cold temperatures, wind and rain, mixed with sleet and snow, continued throughout the day to the point where, at about 4.25 pm, there were traces of snow in the air aboveĀ Korumburra.

One business that did a roaring trade was Harvey Norman in Wonthaggi where they’d sold a dozen new heaters by mid-morning and plenty of people lined up for more.

Hot soup was a favourite around the cafes at lunchtime and it was quickly home at the end of the day for workers to get by the fire.
