LEONGATHA’S Eleanor Patterson jumps in the Women’s High Jump qualifying at the Olympics tonight from 11pm (Thursday morning Rio time).

The jumps will be periodically seen on Channel 7 TV but the best way to make sure you don’t miss it is to download the Channel 7 Rio app at https://7rio2016.com.au/

It will simply be an enormous effort for Eleanor if she can make the final, with 19 of the 36 athletes in the field of two groups having higher personal bests than her.

But it’s all about what you can produce on the night. Twenty of the jumpers have better season’s best jumps than Eleanor this year but, coming from the Southern Hemisphere, with few exposed jumps to her credit, she will be something of an unknown quantity for the other competitors in the event.

High jumpers to watch out for in Eleanor’s Group A include:

  • Chaunte LOWE (USA) best of 2.05m (SB 2.02m)
  • Vashti CUNNINGHAM (USA) best of 1.99m
  • Ana SIMIC (Croatia) best of 1.99m

There are several 2.00m-plus jumpers in the other group as well and it likely that Eleanor will have to jump or exceed her personal best of 1.96m just to make the final.
