YOUNG Leongatha footballer Jesse Burns has won the Central Gippsland Junior Football League best and fairest and goal-kicking awards for the second time in his short career.
Jesse, a mid-fielder who plays with the undefeated Leongatha Green team, won the league Under 12 trophies, two years after winning the double in the Under 10s.
He polled 26 votes, five clear of Trafalgar’s Bailey Humphrey, and snagged 25 goals in the home and away season, although that tally now stands at 29 after he kicked four in the Greens’ first final.
His team will be back in action this weekend in the preliminary final.
Jesse’s dad Adrian Burns, a former Essendon and St Kilda rover, said he was proud of the way Jesse goes about his football.
“He is a good team player. He wouldn’t get the award if he wasn’t a team player.
“He’s a good listener. He takes everything in, just like the rest of his teammates. They’re a really good group of kids,” Adrian said.
The Leongatha Junior Football Club also won the Most Disciplined Club Award for the season.
Most disciplined player for Leongatha Green was Kyah Clarkson, while for Leongatha Gold, it was Alex Battersby.
