THE Wonthaggi Gun Club has grown enormously in the past two years, with member numbers doubling to create a thriving small club.
Every Thursday from 5pm until 6.30pm you can find a dedicated bunch of members at the club’s shooting grounds at 20 Cape Paterson Road, Wonthaggi, firing shotguns at moving clay targets in a controlled environment.
Vice president Shane Cunningham joined the club two years ago and has seen the club grow to about 40 members.
He said the club welcomes all to its come and try days every Thursday.
“Anyone at all can come and join. You don’t even have to have a licence to come and try,” he said.
“The club will supply a coach, a gun, ammunition and targets.
“It’s a great social sport and it’s very
competitive.”
Every Thursday night the club welcomes new and old shooters to the shooting grounds for just $16 a round, which includes 25 rounds of ammunition, 25 targets and free coaching.
The barbecue is usually fired up and the club is a friendly place to try a new sport.
The gun club also holds competitions on the second Sunday of every month, which are hotly contested by members.
