LOCALLY based volunteers Tricia McCraw and Jan Stirling are amongst a community group of volunteers who have come together to help support farmers in need.
Tricia has Gippsland Farmer Relief 2017 fundraising calendars available for purchase at a cost of $15 each, the proceeds of which will assist in the assembly and delivery of relief hampers directly to farmers in need.
Phone Tricia on 5659 2259 for your copy.
Jan is active within GFR, coordinating Foodbank deliveries and donated goods that fill the relief hampers, as well as delivering them to those farmers in the Leongatha region who have registered with GFR Inc for assistance.
Volunteers are always needed and if you would like to join with GFR in this worthwhile and much needed outreach service, contact Jan on 0488 445 153 – you will be warmly welcomed.
Gippsland Farmer Relief Incorporated was founded by social worker and counsellor Melissa Ferguson as a system which assists farmers in need, in particular dairy farmer families who may be in crisis from the current farm gate milk price turmoil.
GFR is an incorporated body that aims to help alleviate the stress of household budgets and to allow farmers to proceed with their everyday lives and farm duties.
GFR also conducts fundraising events and activities and aims to provide practical farm necessities to help families stay on their farms were possible.
Farming families are facing many circumstances beyond their control and the organisation aims to raise funds to assist where able.
GFR uses a “hands up” approach to farmers’ needs which is offered, at all times, with complete confidentiality and respect for them and their families.
GFR aims to raise awareness about the farming challenges being faced, especially by small family farms and to act as a voluntary representative voice of farming communities across Gippsland.
They also advocate at a State and Federal level where able.
Gippsland Farmer Relief reaches out to community organisations and government agencies for support for farmers and makes relevant referrals where appropriate.
They also accept referrals from other community organisations and government agencies of farmers requiring aid.
If you or your organisation or agency feel you may assist GFR with funding, donations or services to help, please phone GFR Inc president Melissa Ferguson on 0409 334 397.
